Richard Pierce Havens (January 21, 1941 – April 22, 2013) was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. His music encompassed elements of folk , soul (both of which he frequently covered ), and rhythm and blues .

Although it was Havens' first album release, Douglas Records later issued two unauthorized albums of material that had been recorded prior to the Mixed Bag recording sessions—Electric Havens (1968) and Richie Havens' Record (1969).

Not many Beatles covers are viewed as superior to the Beatles version, but this cover is one of those rare moments. Updated December 28, 2023.
