Both the 1999 VHS and 2008 DVD home video releases date Treasure of the Peacock's Eye to 1919, which was the year when "New Guinea, March 1919", the basis of the feature-length story was set, but the timeframe was shifted to November 1918, at the end of World War I.

The film was released on VHS in October 1999 as The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Treasure of the Peacock's Eye (Chapter 18 in The Complete Adventures of Indiana Jones). The Peacock's Eye from Young Indiana Jones and the Treasure of the Peacock's Eye was originally intended to be called the Monk Diamond. It was re-envisioned as a piece of the Peacock Throne and tied to Alexander the Great in the teleplay, before becoming part of a golden peacock statue as in the final episode.
