  3. Synopsis. In the early 1930's in Alabama, young Hank Williams learns from Teetot, an elderly Negro, to play the guitar and sing. Hank becomes a salesman in a traveling medicine show and meets Audrey Shepherd and Shorty Younger, leaders of a group of touring hillbilly singers.

With the assistance of Audrey (Susan Oliver), his determined wife, Shorty Younger (Red Buttons), his boss, and Fred Rose (Arthur O’Connell), a music publisher, Hank gains a passionate fan base and becomes a country music star. However, it isn’t long before the difficulties of success become too much for Hank to bear.
