Zerah. ZERAH zĭr’ ə ( זֶ֥רַח; meaning derived from the root “to shine”; shining, dawning, rising; or an abbreviated form of “he [God] has shone forth,” cf. זְרַֽחְיָ֥ה [ 1 Chron 6:6 etc.]). Alternate forms are ZARAH, zâr e KJV ( Gen 38:30; 46:12 ), ZARA ( Matt 1:3 KJV).
4 gen 2022 · Answer. Zerah was a common name in the ancient Middle East, and several Zerahs are mentioned in Scripture (e.g., Genesis 36:33; 1 Chronicles 4:24; 6:21; Joshua 22:20 ). Only three Zerahs have any personal details connected to the mention of their names. The first Zerah is listed in Genesis 36:13–17 as a grandson of Esau.

ZERAH THE CUSHITE. ZERAH THE CUSHITE (Heb. זֶרַח הַכּוּשִׁי), military commander who invaded Judah in the time of *Asa. According to a story, preserved only in ii Chronicles 14:8–14, Zerah commanded a large army and 300 chariots against Judah and reached the environs of *Mareshah.
Zerah the Ethiopian, with a mighty army of a million, Cushim and Lubim, with three hundred chariots, invaded the kingdom, and advanced unopposed in the field as far as Mareshah.
