Alaska Airlines Flight 1866 was a regularly scheduled flight from Anchorage, Alaska to Seattle Washington, with intermediate stops. On September 4, 1971, the aircraft serving the flight crashed into a mountain in Haines Borough , near Juneau, Alaska (JNU/PAJN) on approach for landing. 111 people were killed. [1]

In 1971, the airline faced a significant setback when Flight 1866 from Anchorage to Seattle via Cordova, Yakutat, Juneau, and Sitka ( a kind of milk run ), crashed in Juneau. According to the Juneau Empire, it was the worst air disaster in Alaska history– even to this day.
