He is a founding member and bassist of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers and, along with vocalist Anthony Kiedis, one of the only two members to appear on every one of the band's albums.

Hillel Slovak also used heroin which sadly cost him his life in 1988 due to an accidental overdose. Jack Irons, already suffering from depression, left the band following Slovak’s death as his passing greatly troubled him.
