Armenia (/ ɑːr ˈ m iː n i ə / ⓘ ar-MEE-nee-ə), officially the Republic of Armenia, is a landlocked country in the Armenian Highlands of West Asia. It is a part of the Caucasus region and is bordered by Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north and Azerbaijan to the east, and Iran and the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan to the south.
Come regione storica l’A. corrisponde più o meno alla massima estensione raggiunta dall’antico regno armeno. Attualmente, circa l’80% dell’A. è compreso nella Turchia; il resto forma il territorio della Repubblica di Armenia, tranne due piccoli lembi orientali appartenenti alla Georgia e all’Iran.
