This might be an odd suggestion, but what about a college of spirits bard? It's from Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft and they get to do various fun and useful effects by asking for help from spirits beyond the grave.
I just want some basics on bards for 5E because no matter what I read it doesn't stick. Like at all. There's always way too much information and not just a good bullet point list of the basics like hit die, bardic inspiration, etc.
