2 giorni fa · He married a daughter of Robert Roth and one of his grandsons was also a Walter Lawless, he was a friend of James 11. He was with him at the Battle of the Boyne. James had Silver plate with him engraved with the Stuart coat of arms which he gave to William Lawless.
The Battle of Preston (9–14 November 1715) was the final action of the Jacobite rising of 1715, an attempt to put James Francis Edward Stuart on the British throne in place of George I. After two days of street-fighting, the Jacobite commander Thomas Forster surrendered to government troops under General Charles Wills .

3 giorni fa · I expected some of the historical fiction and/or British writer to answer that. (Maybe old ones, like me) She was an immensely popular British writer of the 1940'- 70s, more or less. She wrote all kinds of books - and lots of them - but I read several that were based on very old houses through the century- and who lived in - and were shaped by - those homes.
