From 2.30pm the Bedford Room at 11 Bedford Square will be open for tea and a chat and at 4pm, at 48 Bedford Square, Ed Maggs, of the Antiquarian Booksellers, Maggs Brothers, is kindly hosting talks by Caroline Barron (former member of Bedford College History staff) and Claire Gobbi Daunton (BA History, 1974) on the early days of Bedford College in that building.

8 dic 2023 · The College's Central London base at 11 Bedford Square is an eighteenth century building in the same square where Bedford College was founded in 1849. It houses teaching rooms, offices for staff and a common room, The Bedford Room, which can be used by alumni.

Founded in 1849 by Elizabeth Jesser Reid, the college was the first higher education institution for women in the United Kingdom. In 1908, thanks to a generous legacy, the college took a Crown lease on South Villa in the Inner Circle, and in 1911 moved to Regent's Park, taking the 'Bedford' name with it. In 1945, the college began admitting male postgraduate students, and in 1965, male undergraduates. In 1985, Royal Holloway College merged with Bedford College (another formerly all-women's college in London which was founded in 1849 and, like Royal Holloway College, joined the University of London in 1900 and became fully co-educational in 1965).
