Orbital floor fracture, also known as “blowout” fracture of the orbit. A "blowout" fracture of the orbital floor is defined as a fracture of the orbital floor in which the inferior orbital rim is intact.
An orbital blowout fracture is a traumatic deformity of the orbital floor or medial wall that typically results from the impact of a blunt object larger than the orbital aperture, or eye socket. Most commonly this results in a herniation of orbital contents through the orbital fractures.

Common mechanisms include falls, high-velocity ball-related sports, traffic accidents, and interpersonal violence. A blunt, directed force is often aimed at the eye without a pressure component toward the eye rim.

Alloplastic implant placement with careful release of periorbital fat and extraocular muscles can effectively restore extraocular movements, orbital integrity, and anatomic volume.
