Brandeis University (/ ˈ b r æ n d aɪ s /) is a private research university in Waltham, Massachusetts. It is located within the Boston City Metropolitan Area. Founded in 1948 as a non-sectarian, coeducational University, Brandeis was established on the site of the former Middlesex University.

Brandeis is nine miles west of Boston, the capital of Massachusetts and New England’s largest city.
