He had served as Archbishop of Milwaukee, appointed there by Pope Saint John Paul II on June 25, 2002. Born February 6, 1950, Cardinal Dolan was the first of five children born to Shirley and Robert Dolan.
Timothy Michael Dolan (born February 6, 1950) is an American cardinal of the Catholic Church. He is the tenth and current archbishop of New York, having been appointed by Pope Benedict XVI in 2009. Dolan served as the president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops from 2010 to 2013 and was elevated to the rank of cardinal in 2012.
