Klaus-Georg Wilhelm Otto Friedrich Gerd von Amsberg was born on his family's estate, Castle Dötzingen, Hitzacker, Germany, on 6 September 1926. He was the second child and only son of Claus Felix von Amsberg and his wife, Baroness Gösta von dem Bussche-Haddenhausen.
He was born at Rehna, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, German Empire (now Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany ), the first child of Wilhelm von Amsberg (1856–1929), by his marriage to Elise von Vieregg (1866–1951), member of an old aristocratic family.
Sein Vater Klaus Felix Friedrich Leopold von Amsberg (1890–1953) war der älteste Sohn von Wilhelm von Amsberg (1856–1929) und dessen Gemahlin Elise von Vieregge (1866–1951). Der Vater arbeitete seit 1917 als Gutsverwalter auf dem Landgut, nachdem er ein missglücktes Abenteuer als Farmer in Afrika hinter sich hatte.

2 mag 2024 · Claus Georg Wilhelm Otto Friedrich Gert von Amsberg was born in Dötzingen, Germany, on 6 September 1926 as only son and second child of Claus von Amsberg (1890-1953) and Baroness Gösta von dem Bussche-Haddenhausen (1902-1996). He had six sisters: Sigrid (1925), Rixa (1927), Margit (1930-1988), Barbara (1930), Theda (1939) and Christina (1945).
On this occasion, Claus von Amsberg received the title of Prince of the Netherlands and the designation Jonkheer van Amsberg. The royal couple took up residence in Drakensteyn Castle in Lage Vuursche. Three sons were born to Prince Claus and Princess Beatrix: Willem-Alexander in 1967, Friso in 1968 and Constantijn in 1969.
