Our History. Established in 1907, Downe House UK is a traditional school with a modern twist. Founded by Miss Olive Willis at Down House, the former home of Charles Darwin, in the village of Downe in Kent, Downe House UK aims to ignite a love of learning in every pupil making them believe that there is nothing they cannot achieve in the world.
With a charm and character all of its own, Downe House is set on a stunning 110-acre estate in Berkshire, overlooking woodland and the historic Berkshire Downs. The girls regularly visit Newbury for shopping, restaurant and cinema trips as well as to participate in local sports clubs.
Downe House day girls enjoy the same extensive benefits as the boarding girls, but they return home at the end of each day.
