25 apr 2023 · An iconic Downers Grove movie house that has been entertaining locals and visitors for almost a century is set to be the star of its own show. It was on Christmas Day in 1928 that the Tivoli Theatre opened at 5021 Highland Ave. in Downers Grove around the same time the silent film era was winding down and “talkies” were becoming the next sensation.

The building was intended to be a one-stop entertainment venue for the whole family. It included the movie theatre, a bowling center, game room, residential hotel, stores and offices. With just over 1000 seats, and restored to its original art deco glory, it is a treasured architectural gem in the Downers Grove downtown business district.
