The “true story” behind the case involved a California woman, Doris Bither, who in the mid-1970s claimed, among other ghostly goings-on, to have been sexually assaulted by three ghosts. Bither’s case inspired a 1978 novel by Frank De Felitta titled The Entity and a film released in 1982 starring Barbara Hershey.
