15 ago 2023 · Franz Stahl came aboard the Foo Fighters as their second guitarist, taking over from departing original guitarist Pat Smear in 1997. Stahl and Dave Grohl previously played together in the hardcore punk band Scream, which also featured Peter Stahl and Skeeter Thompson (via AllMusic).

Stahl still said his tenure in Foo Fighters was "the best two years of my life". After leaving Foo Fighters, J invited Stahl to play again, which he did for another seven years until 2005. In 2009, Franz was invited by Pete to play for Smith & Pyle , and during the tour, the brothers decided to reform Scream with Thompson and Stax.
28 nov 2020 · The Foo Fighters seem to have a tendency to shuffle their guitarists: Pat Smear left, giving way to Franz Stahl, who was fired and replaced with Chris Shiflett, then Smear returned to the band. As of now, both Shiflett and Smear are still strumming along.
It's difficult. What happened to him was definitely fucked up, but imo he's also victimizing himself by refusing to accept that Dave had a genuine problem with his drumming. He has this theory that his drumming wasn't the real issue, that it was Gil Norton/the record company who drove him out so they could say Dave was drumming on the record ...
