Dopo il diploma superiore conseguito a Tulsa nel 1962, grazie ad una borsa di studio per meriti sportivi ha la possibilità di frequentare prima l’Università di Pittsburgh e successivamente quella di Stillwater, senza però mai arrivare alla Laurea.
