Gian Galeazzo Visconti (16 October 1351 – 3 September 1402), was the first duke of Milan (1395) and ruled the late-medieval city just before the dawn of the Renaissance. He also ruled Lombardy jointly with his uncle Bernabò.

Poco si conosce dell'infanzia e dell'educazione di G., svoltesi probabilmente nel castello di Pavia, eletto a dimora da Galeazzo dopo la conquista della città.

Con Gian Galeazzo, lo Stato Visconteo raggiunse la sua massima estensione: tra il 1387 e il 1389 furono, infatti, conquistate Verona, Vicenza, Feltre, Belluno e, temporaneamente, Padova, mentre tra il 1399 e il 1402 il signore estese il suo controllo a Pisa, Siena, Perugia, Assisi e Bologna.
