This is a list of monarchs of Hesse (German: Hessen) during the history of Hesse on west-central Germany. These monarchs belonged to a dynasty collectively known as the House of Hesse and the House of Brabant , [1] originally the Reginar .

History. Hessen was originally apart of the Frankish Kingdom during Merovingian and Carolingian times. It was the headquarters for Charlemagne while he campaigned against the Saxons. The treaty of Verdun in 843 caused Hessen to fall to Louis the German. Later it was in the duchy of Saxony and Franconia.
