Der Durchbruch gelang ihr 2013 als Chantal in Fack ju Göhte. Für ihre Nebenrolle in Lieber Thomas (2021) gewann sie den Deutschen Filmpreis.
Jella a commencé sa carrière d'actrice au théâtre. En 2009, elle tourne son premier court métrage intitulé Der letzte Rest à l'âge de 15 ans. Elle est surtout connue pour son rôle de Chantal dans la comédie Un prof pas comme les autres de Bora Dagtekin en 2013.

Two former convicts named Vic (Clemens Schick) and Tom (Max von der Groeben) kidnap Stella (Jella Haase), the estranged daughter of a wealthy businessman, as part of a get-rich scheme. The men take Stella to a run-down flat, in which they have previously soundproofed a room.
