John Patrick Byrne. Height. 6′ (1.83 m) Mini Bio. John Byrne was born to an Irish Catholic family in Paisley, Renfrewshire. He grew up in the Ferguslie Park housing scheme and was educated at the town's St Mirin's Academy before attending Glasgow School of Art from 1958 to 1963.

Born in 1940, John Byrne grew up in the Ferguslie Park housing estate in Paisley, frequently cited at the time as the worst slum in Europe. Leaving school without any qualifications, he worked as a ‘slab boy,’ grinding pigment in a carpet factory in Elderslie.
