John Ronald Reuel Tolkien CBE FRSL (/ ˈ r uː l ˈ t ɒ l k iː n /, ROOL TOL-keen; 3 January 1892 – 2 September 1973) was an English writer and philologist. He was the author of the high fantasy works The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
Tolkien è noto a tutti per i suoi romanzi Lo Hobbit e Il Signore degli Anelli ed è ormai considerato un indiscusso maestro del Fantasy, se non il padre di questo genere. Non tutti però si sono soffermati a considerare le sue indubbie abilità come poeta.
