Saturn Devouring His Son is a painting by Spanish artist Francisco Goya. It is traditionally considered a depiction of the Greek myth of the Titan Cronus, whom the Romans called Saturn, eating one of his children out of fear of a prophecy by Gaea that one of his children would overthrow him.

His wife Ops eventually hid his third son, Jupiter, on the island of Crete, deceiving Saturn by offering a stone wrapped in swaddling in his place. Beth: It had been prophecized to Saturn that one of his sons would dethrone him. Saturn is god of time. So in order to prevent that occurrence, Saturn devours his children as they're born, but one escapes, Jupitar, and so Saturn in the end is dethroned and he can't escape the fate that's been allotted to him.
