The Missouri Public Defender Commission has selected Mary Fox of St. Louis, Missouri, to serve as the next director of the Missouri State Public Defender System. Fox will take office on January 10, 2020, succeeding Michael Barrett, who resigned effective November 15, 2019, to relocate to New York.

Last month , she became head of Missouri’s public defender system, overseeing and advocating for nearly 400 lawyers who represent indigent individuals at their trials and during the appeals process.

Mary Fox is the Director of the Missouri State Public Defender System. Fox was appointed to this position in January, 2020. Prior to that appointment Fox served for thirteen years as the managing attorney of the St. Louis City Trial Office for the system.

Fox said her team is busy recruiting new law grads and attorneys with a goal of clearing the waitlist by Jan. 1.
