Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are American actors, screenwriters, and producers from Cambridge, Massachusetts who have frequently collaborated throughout their careers. Scuola d’onore, il film diretto nel 1992 da Robert Mandel (L’ora della violenza), ha visto la primissima collaborazione tra Matt Demon e Ben Affleck e ha lanciato le loro carriere assieme a quelle di altri giovani interpreti come Brendan Fraser (The Whale) e Chris O’Donnell (Scent of a Woman – Profumo di donna).
Il vero successo arriva però, come anticipato, con Will Hunting – Genio Ribelle. I diritti sulla sceneggiatura scritta a 4 mani dai due colleghi, inizialmente pensata come un thriller e poi revisionata dopo l’intervento di Rob Reiner, presidente della Castle Rock Entertainment, e dello sceneggiatore William Goldman, furono acquisiti dalla Miramax. ...
La collaborazione con Kevin Smith viene solamente posticipata e nel 1999 la coppia Affleck-Damon collabora con quella formata dallo stesso regista e Jason Mewes, meglio noti come Jay & Silent Bob e divenuti celebri 5 anni prima con Clerks. L’unione tra questi giovani e promettenti artisti, al fianco di altre celebrità, come Chris Rock, Alan Rickman...
Passano solamente 2 anni e Kevin Smith interpella nuovamente i due attori per condividere il set e partecipare, unicamente in veste di cameo, a Jay & Silent Bob… Fermate Hollywood!, ove sia Matt Damon che Ben Affleck, così come molte delle celebrità presenti nel film, interpretano loro stessi.
I due si incontrano poi anche l’anno successivo, per la commedia diretta dall’ex cestista Jordan Brady, Duetto a tre, con protagonisti Denis Richards (Il mondo non basta) e Luke Wilson (I Tenenbaum) e dove, mentre Ben Affleck trova spazio per buona parte della pellicola, Matt Damonappare solamente come cameo.
