Boulanger, all'inizio degli anni Cinquanta intraprese una duplice carriera come jazzista e autore di colonne sonore. Arrangiatore per S. Getz, S. Vaughan, Ph. Woods, G. Mulligan, M. Davis, è tra gli autori europei più eseguiti dal jazz americano.
