Montgomery is north of Downtown Houston and brings along a southern small town charm. This rural town has a rich history in the Texas Independence movement, not far from where the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed at Washington on the Brazos.
History. Montgomery Texas happens to be one of the oldest towns in Texas and the Birthplace of the Texas Flag! Prior to being chartered in 1837, Montgomery had been known as Lake Creek Settlement known to some as Montgomery Settlement and also known as Montgomery Prairie.
Montgomery was the first county seat of Montgomery County and was the third county formed under the Republic of Texas. It is also recognized as the birthplace of the Texas Lone Star Flag. Montgomery is located at the junction of Texas 105 and FM 149, near the southwestern edge of Sam Houston National Forest in western Montgomery County.
