PSOE party symbol was changed from the anvil with the book to the social democratic fist and rose created in the French Socialist Party, redrawn for the PSOE by José María Cruz Novillo. In the 1978 Spanish constitutional referendum, the PSOE supported the Spanish constitution which was approved.

The PSOE is affiliated to the SI. PSOE-affiliated regional parties also use the emblem, sometimes with elements from the regional flag added to the design. The 2023 version of the party logo, combining the fist and rose, the red square introduced in 2001, and the heart symbol introduced in 2019.
