A hospital for Oxford. The first proposals to build a hospital for Oxford were made in 1758 at a meeting of the Radcliffe Trustees, who administered the estate of Dr John Radcliffe (1650-1714), physician to Queen Anne. The sum of £4000 was released for the new hospital, which was constructed on land given by Thomas Rowney, MP for Oxford 1722-1759.
John Radcliffe Hospital (informally known as the JR or the John Radcliffe) is a large tertiary teaching hospital in Oxford, England. It forms part of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is named after John Radcliffe , an 18th-century physician and Oxford University graduate, who endowed the Radcliffe Infirmary , the main hospital for Oxford from 1770 until 2007.
From bus stops at 'Headington shops' (either side of Windmill Road) it is 0.6 miles (12 minutes') walk to the John Radcliffe Level 2 main entrance via Osler Road, or 0.8 miles (15 minutes') walk (downhill) to the West Wing.
