2 gen 2015 · An Aircraft Maintenance and Storage Unit has been continuously located at RAF Shawbury in one form or another since 1938 making it the longest in location across the RAF. A number of front-line and training aircraft, not required for day-to-day use, are held in reserve at RAF Shawbury.
Several RAF aircraft types are stored in long-term reserve at RAF Shawbury. These aircraft are stored in four specially de-humidified hangars at different states of readiness and can be brought back into active service if required.

The Aircraft Maintenance and Storage Unit at Shawbury includes long-term storage for several RAF aircraft types which are stored in four specially de-humidified hangars at different states of readiness and can be brought back into active service if required. Other aircraft that are no longer required are also stored pending their disposal.
