Ralph Richardson. Sir Ralph David Richardson (19 December 1902 – 10 October 1983) was an English actor who, with John Gielgud and Laurence Olivier, was one of the trinity of male actors who dominated the British stage for much of the 20th century.

Ralph Richardson. Actor: Doctor Zhivago. Sir Ralph Richardson was one of the greatest actors of the 20th Century English-language theater, ascending to the height of his profession in the mid-1930s when he became a star in London's West End. He became the first actor of his generation to be knighted.

He continued on stage and in films into the early 1980s and was especially praised for his comedic roles. In his later years he was celebrated for his theatre work with his old friend John Gielgud. Among his most famous roles were Peer Gynt, Falstaff, John Gabriel Borkman and Hirst in Pinter's No Man's Land.
After starting in an office job, he turned to the stage, making his professional debut in 1921; he played a wide range of Shakespearean roles, avoiding the romantic ones and pursuing the great character roles - Malvolio, Bottom, etc - as well as initiating modern roles, like the self-deluding protagonist of Flowering Cherry (1957-58).
