Our members. Coordinators. For each committee in the European Parliament there is an S&D MEP who is responsible for co-ordinating the work of the Socialists and Democrats: these are our coordinators and spokespersons for each topic. They are elected by their colleagues in the committee for two and a half years.

There are six different traineeship programmes which involve young people in the S&D Group’s work. The duration of our traineeships is five months. Due to the 2024 European elections, applications for traineeships starting in mid-September 2024 will open in March, and applications for traineeships starting in mid-February 2025 will open in October.
The political groups in the European Parliament. Each political group care of its own internal organisation by appointing a chair (or two cochairs in the case of some groups), a bureau and a secretariat. The places assigned to Members in the Chamber are decided by political affiliation, from left to right, by agreement with the group chairs.
For the S&D Group, women’s rights and gender equality are crucial; not a cherry on top. As long as half the population is left behind, we cannot have a fair and gender-equal society. Our goal is to create an inclusive, feminist Europe, where everyone can have the same opportunities and rights, no matter their gender.
