Salvatore Mineo Jr. (January 10, 1939 – February 12, 1976) was an American actor. He was best known for his role as John "Plato" Crawford in the drama film Rebel Without a Cause (1955), which earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor at age 17, making him the fifth-youngest nominee in the category.
Sal Mineo was an American actor who starred in Rebel Without a Cause, Exodus and Escape from the Planet of the Apes. He was nominated for two Oscars and stabbed to death in 1976 at age 37.

He was also one of the first actors to be openly gay in Hollywood and a pioneer of the gay rights movement. He was stabbed to death in 1976 at the age of 37.
