6 mag 2021 · I like Fry’s description of free will as a myth rather than an illusion. It is more appropriate (as Sam Harris has pointed out, free will isn’t even a good illusion when you observe it closely) and it offers something to those who are disturbed to find their faith in free will under attack.
More to the point, Fry seems to agree with me about dualism and free will: “Nor am I saying that we don’t have responsibility for our actions: We have agency over the body in which our minds and consciousness dwell. But we can’t choose our brains, we can’t choose our genes, we can’t choose our parents.”
Stephen Fry: Willem & Frieda – Defying the Nazis (working title: Willem and Frieda: A Story of Resistance) is a 2023 Channel 4 documentary film presented by Stephen Fry and directed by John Hay. It is about two gay members of the Dutch resistance during the Second World War, Willem Arondeus and Frieda Belinfante.
Signature. Stephen John Fry (born 24 August 1957) is an English actor, broadcaster, comedian, director, narrator, and writer. He first came to prominence as one half of the comic double act Fry and Laurie, alongside Hugh Laurie, with the two starring in A Bit of Fry & Laurie (1989–1995) and Jeeves and Wooster (1990–1993).
