She sometimes slid around both sides of a note before she settled on it. She often added the syllable “uh" to the end of a word ("ridin' on the moon-uh").
In the face of such competition, it would be easy to overlook Sylvia Syms, but she was also an excellent torch singer as this twofer shows. Like her competitors, Sylvia trawled the Great American Songbook for suitable material to record, selecting a mix of popular standards and more obscure songs, though there are not many really famous songs here.

Not to be confused with the English actress of the same name, the jazz and cabaret singer Sylvia Syms was initially a devotee of Billie Holiday, although her subsequent style didn't resemble Lady Day's in any significant manner.
