Ulrika Eleonora was the youngest child of King Charles XI and Ulrika Eleonora of Denmark and named after her mother. In 1715, she married Frederick of Hesse-Kassel. After the death of her brother Charles XII in 1718, Ulrika Eleonora claimed the throne.

Here she is known as Ulrika Eleonora. Ulrikke Eleonore was highly educated by her ambitious mother, and she became engaged to the Swedish king as early as 1675. The outbreak of the Scanian War between Denmark and Sweden in the same year meant that the wedding was put on hold indefinitely.
1688-01-23 — 1741-11-24. Queen of Sweden. Ulrika Eleonora the younger was a reigning queen of Sweden from 1718–1720. The Crown then transferred to her consort King Fredrik I. Her period of reign marked the beginning of what has come to be known as ‘frihetstiden’ (the Age of Liberty) within Swedish historiography.
