His first solo effort, the 1996 song " Hands of Death (Burn Baby Burn) ", was written and performed with Alice Cooper and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance .

I think the ONLY difference between them is that Rob wanted the final say in musical direction. With that being said, his last few albums have been terrible. Hellbilly 2 was his last good one, and that was just ok. White Zombie is groove metal. Rob Zombie is industrial rock, with a few metal elements.
And then Rob left the band to date Sherry Moon and start his solo project, and never talked to any of the members of White Zombie again.
