Raised and principally trained in New York, Forsythe arrived on the European dance scene in his early 20s as a dancer and eventually as Resident Choreographer of the Stuttgart Ballet. At the same time, he also created new works for ballet companies in Munich, The Hague, London, Basel, Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, Paris, New York, and San Francisco.

William Forsythe (* 30. Dezember 1949 in New York) ist ein US-amerikanischer Tänzer und Choreograf. Während seiner Zeit als Ballettdirektor des Ballett Frankfurt (1984–2004) [1] und The Forsythe Company (2005–2015) etablierte er sich als einer der bedeutendsten zeitgenössischen Choreografen.

Forsythe’s works have been performed by ballet companies around the world. After the closure of Frankfurt Ballet in 2004, he established The Forythe Company, running that company until 2015. He is currently a professor at the University of Southern California’s newly created Glorya Kaufman School of Dance.
William Forsythe (New York City, 1949) is related to contemporary dance, because his choreographic work displays an assorted exploration of modern dance codes. Though, he is most commonly considered as a ‘neoclassical’ choreographer, mainly because the foundation of his pieces is constructed with (kind of) vocabulary from classical ballet and ballet trained dancers.
