Bethuel (Hebrew: בְּתוּאֵל – Bəṯūʾēl), in the Hebrew Bible, was an Aramean man, the youngest son of Nahor and Milcah, the nephew of Abraham, and the father of Laban and Rebecca. Bethuel was also a town in the territory of the tribe of Simeon, west of the Dead Sea.
bethuel (1) be-thu'-el (bethu'el; "dweller in God"): A son of Nahor and Milcah, Abraham's nephew, father of Laban and Rebekah ( Genesis 22:23 ; Genesis 24:15, 24, 47, 50 ; 25:20:00; 28:2, 5). In the last-named passage, he is surnamed "the Syrian."

BETHUEL (Heb. בְּתוּאֵל = בֵּית אֵל; "house of God," cf. Batiilu in the *Tell el-Amarna letters or – מתואל, "man of God"), the youngest son of *Nahor and Milcah (Gen. 22:21–22) and the father of Laban and *Rebekah (22:23, 24:15, et al.).
Bethuel, being king of Haran, exercised the jus primœ noctis in his dominions. The people consented, only on condition that he should use this privilege also toward the members of his own family. God, therefore, let him die suddenly when Eliezer wooed Rebekah for Isaac, in order to spare her the dreadful ordeal.

Bethuel is first mentioned in the Bible in Genesis 24:15, when Abraham’s servant is seeking a wife for Isaac. The servant meets Rebekah at a well, and she agrees to go back with him to Isaac.
