Mark Burgess (born 11 May 1960) is an English singer, bassist and songwriter, best known as the frontman of post-punk band the Chameleons.
The Chameleons are an English rock band formed in Middleton, Greater Manchester, in 1981. The band's classic line-up consisted of bassist and vocalist Mark Burgess, guitarists Reg Smithies and Dave Fielding, and drummer John Lever. The band released their debut studio album, Script of the Bridge, in 1983.

26 dic 2014 · Mark Burgess: Sometimes he played and sometimes he didn’t. Essentially the band were one guitar, one set of drums, and one bass, 3 piece—Rock & Roll band. That was such a massive sound for three people.
So, it was an honour to be able to speak with Mark Burgess of The Chameleons and get some insight into him and the band he so ably fronts. What were the first records you can remember having an impact on you as a child?
23 apr 2014 · By-passing bluster and chest-beating, The Chameleons’ music was infused with humanity and empathy and it’s small wonder they were supported by a dedicated fanbase that recognised itself in Mark Burgess’ kaleidoscopic view of a grey and increasingly oppressive environment.
In 1981, Mark Burgess formed the Chameleons with guitarists Dave Fielding and Reg Smithies, and drummer John Lever. Formed during the early-'80s British post-punk movement, the band embraced the disjointed atmospherics and alienation of New Order.
