CAROLUS-DURAN in "Enciclopedia Italiana" - Treccani - Treccani. CAROLUS-DURAN (Charles-Émile-Auguste Duran) Pittore, nato a Lilla il 4 luglio 1837, morto a Parigi il 18 febbraio 1917. Studiò prima a Lilla, poi a Parigi.
Carolus-Duran celebrated their friendship in two pictures of 1861: this likeness of twenty-five-year-old Fantin, and a closely related portrait (Musée d’Orsay, Paris). Fresh and penetrating, the present portrayal reveals the talents that made Carolus-Duran a rising star.
Leading the Revival of Realism. CAROLUS-DURAN, the name adopted by the French painter Charles-Auguste-Emile Durand (1837-1917), who was born at Lille on the 4th of July 1837. He studied at the Lille Academy and then went to Paris, and in 1861 to Italy and Spain for further study, especially devoting himself to the pictures of Velazquez.
