Nicolas, Duke of Mercœur. Nicolas of Lorraine, Duke of Mercœur (16 October 1524 – 23 January 1577), was the second son of Antoine, Duke of Lorraine, and Renée de Bourbon. [1] Life. He was originally destined for an ecclesiastical career, being made bishop of Metz in 1543 and of Verdun in 1544.

Born in Nomeny in the Duchy of Bar, Louise was the third daughter and youngest child born to Nicholas of Lorraine, Duke of Mercœur, and his first wife, Countess Margaret of Egmont (1517–1554). [1] . She was the only surviving child of her parents; her older siblings, two sisters and one brother, died in infancy.
