Melvin Kaminsky nasce a Brooklyn il 28 giugno 1926, da genitori ebrei, Maximilian Kaminsky (1893-1929) e Kate Brookman (1896-1989), figli di immigrati dalla Germania, Russia e dalla Bielorussia.
