Gerard Joseph Malanga (born March 20, 1943) is an American poet, photographer, filmmaker, actor, curator and archivist . Early life and education. Malanga was born in the Bronx in 1943, the only child of Italian immigrant parents.

Poet and photographer Gerard Malanga, the son of Italian immigrants, was raised in the Bronx borough of New York City. Malanga began writing poetry as a teenager, and has published numerous books of poetry, including chic death (1971), Mythologies of the Heart (1996), No Respect: New And Selected…
Gerard Malanga has shot some of the most iconic images in the world of art, music and literature. His photographs of Mick Jagger, William S. Burroughs, and a naked Iggy Pop are highly viewed several decades later. Gerard started taking pictures of the New York train system as a 12-year old.
Gerard Malanga writes poetry every day of his life. He goes to his favorite morning spot, reads the NY Times, and throughout the day poetry goes from his mind to paper. Gerard is the author of over a dozen books of poetry spanning a 50-year period, including 2019’s “Cool and other things" (Bottle of Smoke Press).
