  3. The present building was erected in 1924 and became known as the Kitsilano Junior Senior High School - the first of its kind in Canada. It commenced operations on September 6th, 1927, with a total enrolment of 1,275 pupils and teachers. A lot of the graduates of 1971 started in Grade 7 at Kits in September of 1965.

  7. Kitsilano High school, named for August Jack Khatsalano, an indigenous chief of the Sḵwxwú7mesh (Squamish) nation, has been educating kids in Kitsilano since 1917. When the first structures of today’s school were built at the 12th and Trafalgar location, the area was still mostly bog, with active muskrat trapping and a path through heavy brush leading to Broadway.
