Ivanhoe, romanzo di Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) pubblicato nel 1820, è riconosciuto come uno dei primi romanzi storici, ovvero quel genere letterario che ricostruisce un’epoca storica passata mescolando eventi reali e personaggi di finzione e ricostruendo l’atmosfera, le pratiche sociali e le mentalità del tempo.

Ivanhoe: A Romance (/ ˈ aɪ v ən ˌ h oʊ /) by Walter Scott is a historical novel published in three volumes, in December 1819, as one of the Waverley novels. It marked a shift away from Scott's prior practice of setting stories in Scotland and in the more recent past.
